Yes, it’s true.  I’m movin’ on up…to an apartment.  Many would probably see this as no big deal.  It’s an “efficiency” apartment, one room with kitchen and bathroom.  But for me, it’s much more.  You see, for the past few years I’ve lived in what I have come to refer to as the Cubbyhole-a very small room with tiny bathroom and a little counter for my cooking needs.  While the commute was handy (about 10 seconds from my front door to the classroom I work in), the other downside was that it was across campus from the rest of the housing.  Note, I am not saying this to complain.  The Cubbyhole had its time, place, and purpose, and I learned to make do and live very simply.

However…right now, I feel like doing one big happy dance!!!  To have a full kitchen again is a big deal for someone like me, who loves to bake.  (Cooking, on the other hand…not so much.  Hoping to improve in that area though.)  A bathroom that includes a tub, for a long soak, just because I can.  Basically, I find myself celebrating the simple things in life.  I always have been a simple woman, really, and this new apartment I’m moving into is a real blessing that should be celebrated.  I find myself debating where to hang pictures, or what drawer to put various odds and ends in.  Like I said-the little things in life.

Of course there is also the work that comes with this, as I go back and forth again and again to the Cubbyhole, carrying boxes (mostly books, which will not be a shocker to anyone who knows me.)  I simply remind myself that it is a good way of getting exercise.  Taking stock of everything, realizing what I have that I perhaps don’t need, and also what I need but don’t yet have.
